There are countless reasons why we love Demi Moore. Beloved member of the Brat Pack, musician, actress, role model, fashion icon, charity worker and rare doll collector, she has a large personality that is both enduring and entertaining. It turns out; she is also as funny as hell. Demi made surprise appearance recently at the taping of a Comedy Central roast for her ex Bruce Willis and what transpired was nothing short of genius.
As you would expect, no one has better material than a former spouse. Think about all the secrets you have with your wife or husband and how many of them you wouldn’t want said out in public? Demi was not scheduled to appear and was not on the roster, which caught the Die Hard star off guard.
She got off to a blazing start saying that being married to Bruce was very much like the film “The Sixth Sense” in the way that he was dead the entire time. The pair were married in 1987 and divorced in 2000. She added that she was married to him for the first three Die Hard movies and then called it quits. It made sense she said, because the last two films sucked.
On Acting and Parenting
Demi then moved on to Bruce’s parenting skills or lack thereof. She recounted a time when their daughter was young and they would take turns changing her diaper at night. When it was Bruce’s turn, he would slowly lean over and whisper in her ear that he would give her $1000 if she would do it instead. Some might argue she’d have been better of playing the online pokies Australia has to offer than getting her hands dirty, but $1000 is nothing to sneeze at!
To his credit, Bruce sat with a smile on his face enjoying the roasting and often nodding in response. Demi then moved on to his acting career. He often told her that one of his biggest failures in life was the ending of their marriage. However, she could think of plenty of examples that would be much higher on the list. For example, turning down the George Clooney role in Ocean’s Eleven, what was he thinking there? What about Hudson Hawk or Planet Hollywood, they too were failures of note.
How Bruce Got His Big Break?
Somewhat controversially, Demi even referenced producer Harvey Weinstein who currently faces sexual assault charges and is in the spotlight for preying on multiple women. Demi said that Bruce got his career-making moment in the cult-classic film Pulp fiction. She remembered thinking that it was odd how a big action star would land up with role in a small independent film?
She said Bruce was interested in the part and went to visit Harvey at his hotel. No one knows what happened there, but when he came back, he announced that he got the part. This subversive reference to sexual exploration was met with great applause by the audience, and surprisingly no hard feelings from Bruce. The two embraced after the show and were all smiles. Even if there was some animosity between them, it was not displayed. At the end of the day, it was all just a bit of fun.
