Released in 1989, Karate Kid 3 is set immediately after the events of Karate Kid 2 on Daniel La Russo and Mr Miyagi’s return from Okinawa. Although the plot is slightly lacking, there are some very interesting characters introduced and the 13% return on Rotten Tomatoes is definitely harsh! If you ignore The Next Karate Kid (most people do) Karate Kid 3 completed the Ralph Macchio trilogy and was a far more interesting story than critics give it credit for.
The original Karate Kid movie is a masterpiece, and no sequels were ever going to be able to match that one of a kind chemistry and magic. That being said, opinion at the best au online casino would suggest that Karate Kid 2 and 3 have a place in history in their own right. Karate Kid 2 certainly had a freshness to it thanks to the change of location. The move to Okinawa opened up far more opportunities in terms of furthering the story of Daniel Son and Mr Miyagi, and the change of love interest for Daniel was definitely a positive move. Possibly some of the critics of Karate Kid 3 did not like the fact that the storyline did not follow a traditional format and a lack of female companion for Daniel. As far as I am concerned, this was actually a positive move by the writers as it offered an opportunity to explore a different side to Daniel LaRusso and focus on his other personal relationships.
Arguably the most exciting thing about Karate Kid 3 is the groundwork it laid for the Cobra Kai TV Show, particularly where season 4 is concerned. Terry Silver was a real breath of fresh air in the most recent season of the hit Netflix show, and while it’s easy in hindsight, Karate Kid 3 benefits as a standalone film as a result of Silver’s introduction in the TV show. With the Cobra Kai sensei already confirmed for season 5, it will be interesting to see whether he is joined by any other members of the Karate Kid 3 cast. I would personally love to see Snake back on the payroll, but Mike Barnes is the name on everyone’s lips. It would be no surprise to see the Karate Kid 3 protagonist take aim at Daniel once again.
